Workshop Imagery on Glass with Susan Taylor Glasgow

Imagery & Text on Glass with Susan Taylor Glasgow
December 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5

Susan Taylor Glasgow demonstrates the many methods she uses to apply text and imagery on and in glass. She will teach how to embed realistic half-tone photographs into glass (2 different ways!), create high contrast images from photographs to silkscreen, use common stamps on glass, and manipulate enamels to their full graphic potential.  Susan will explain how to process your images via Photoshop, as well as preparing your images via simple copier.  You’ll also learn which pigments work best with each method.  You’ll come away with a comprehensive set of 5" x 5" samples to slump into plates or leave flat.

What You Will Learn

In this workshop, you will explore 5 different methods of firing text and imagery into and onto glass. You will learn how to prepare and enhance your images using your own photos.

You will learn how to create photo half-tones to sandblast photo-realistic images into your glass two different ways. You will also learn basic silk screen techniques and which pigments and mediums work best for each method.

Bring depth to your images with glass powders and frits. Experiment with rubber stamps to create repetitive patterns and learn how to prepare pigments for this technique. You will learn how to create complexity and depth by layering and stacking images.

You will leave with a comprehensive set of 5” x 5” glass tiles illustrating a combination of the techniques you learned to slump into plates or leave flat.

About Susan Taylor Glasgow…

For years I believed my work was about myself.  But ultimately my work is about my Mother. With the sewing and cooking skills she lovingly passed on, I now sew an unyielding medium and bake inedible creations.  I often wonder what she would think of my misguided domestic talents, and my decision to be an artist over the perfect wife.  Armed with finely honed homemaking skills gone awry, my work exercises the motions and notions of the feminine ideal, but in a contrary material, offering conflicting messages of comfort and expectation.

Born in Superior, Wisconsin in 1958, Susan Taylor Glasgow grew up in Duluth, Minnesota.  Graduating from the University of Iowa with a BFA in Design, she now lives and works in Columbia, Missouri.
