The Shimmering Autumn Aspens Forest Landscape
with Master Glass Artist Donna Sarafis

February 4 & 5 and February 11 & 12, 2012
10am to 5pm each day over two weekends

Shimmering in the breeze, the aspen’s canopy of round leaves with serrated edges and pale undersides, mounted on long, laterally flattened stalks gives the tree the unique appearance of shimmering or quivering in the wind. They also make a distinctive rustling, whispering sound “. . . as if they were spattered by rain.” (R. Mabey, Flora Britannica 1996). In many cultures and religions the wind is associated with the voice of Spirit, and in the boughs and leaves of the aspen the wind finds a distinctive voice to inspire those who would listen with patience and sensitivity. The movement of the wind through the canopy and the sun dappling through the leaves can have a mesmerizing effect, encouraging a contemplative and meditative frame of mind.

Now imagine creating your own shimmering aspens forest landscape panel with dimension and texture in glass in a workshop led by Master Glass Artist, Donna Sarafis.

In this four day, action packed, fast paced workshop taking place over two weekends, you will create a panel, about 18.5” tall by 11” wide, a wooded aspens scene full of depth, texture and color as Donna Sarafis teaches and leads you through her unique artistic techniques.

Donna will share with you the techniques she has developed that make her glass works sing with life in dimensionality, texture and the blending of colors that is characteristic of her incredible and breathtaking art.  You will work with multiple forms of beautiful Bullseye glass to create this magnificent panel including 2mm and 3mm sheet glass, stringers and frits.

See pictures HERE of the landscape panel project workshop, Chickadee in the Magnolia Tree, which Donna led last year at Hot Glass Houston.

About Donna Sarafis…

Donna’s glass imagery comes to life as she builds layer upon layer of different colors and forms of glass creating a texture and depth that begs to be touched. Some have described the rich, bold, dimensionality of Donna’s work as if though she had applied texture and color to the glass just as a skilled painter applies oils to a canvas with a palette knife. Donna’s art stirs the visual and tactile senses.

Donna, a native Texan, began her artistic training in Europe. She has worked in ceramics, painted in multiple mediums and surfaces, and taught painting before starting her journey in kiln formed glass over 10 years ago after spending time in the Northwest. Since then, she has developed her unique artistic style of imagery in glass which is both amazing and breathtaking. She was recognized for her talent as the1st place winner of the 2010 Delphi Art Glass Festival.

Donna’s dimensional glass art is found in public and private collections and select galleries across the country.
